What does the BUS offer homeowners?
• £5,000 off an air source heat pump
• £5,000 off a biomass boiler (if in a rural location)*
• £6,000 off a ground source heat pump
* The grant will only cover biomass in rural locations and in properties that are not connected to the gas grid.
When is the BUS available from?
• 1st April - Low carbon heating systems that you commission from today onwards may be eligible for the grant
• 11th April 2022 - MCS certified installers can open a BUS account with Ofgem, the grant administrator
• 23rd May 2022 - The scheme opens for grant applications and payments
Are my customers eligible for the BUS?
Your customers must meet the below criteria to be eligible:
• Live in England or Wales
• Own their property (home or small non-domestic)
• Their property must not already have a heat pump installed
• Their property must have an installation capacity up to 45kW️
• They have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
• They have no outstanding recommendations of loft/cavity wall insulation
• Their home is not a new build (exception for self builds)
How can homeowners access the BUS?
• They need to find an MCS certified installer in their area
• The chosen MCS installer can then advise the homeowner on their eligibility
• You as the installer apply for the grant on behalf of your customer
• The government grant amount is deducted from the quote you provide
• Be sure to let your customer know that when they're contacted by Ofgem, they should confirm you are acting on their behalf
What qualifications do installers need to offer BUS?
• You need to be MCS certified to offer the BUS grant voucher
• Being MCS certified demonstrates to your customers that you install products to the industry standard expected, every single time

Am I required to offer BUS to my customers and what training is available?
• You don't have to offer the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, but bear in mind that if other installers are offering BUS, the customer may choose them to install their new heat pump instead to save money
