Director of Training and Technologies, Mark Wilkins comments on the Energy Networks Associations recently published Britain’s Hydrogen Blending Delivery Plan

“It’s great to see all five of Britain's gas grid companies uniting together to produce Britain's Hydrogen Blending Delivery Plan. With decarbonisation being top of the UK agenda, it is important all players involved in the industry take the necessary steps to contribute to the 2050 net zero target. The plan sets out details of how gas network companies plan to deliver up to 20% hydrogen to homes from 2023, as set out in the UK Hydrogen Strategy. It also urges the government to increase the production of hydrogen from 5GW to 10GW in 2030, whilst providing the details behind the ambition.

“There is no silver bullet to the decarbonisation of heat but it’s clear that hydrogen will play a key role in reaching the UK’s carbon targets. With more trials and testing being undertaken this year, it’s set to be an important 12 months for hydrogen development. However, it is imperative that energy networks have a plan in place to support delivering hydrogen to homes.”
