Air Source Heat Pump (OFTEC)This course has been developed by OFTEC, in conjunction with industry experts including Vaillant, for technicians who wish to install, commission and service Air Source Heat Pumps (not including the refrigerant system).The course covers a variety of areas including health and safety, regional legislation and requirements, safe electrical isolation, factors to be considered before and during installation, filling and flushing requirements, appliance installation, soundness tests, operational checks and procedures, fault finding identifying unsafe situations, and practical servicing and commissioning.

Assessment is via multiple choice theory papers, practically assessed worksheets (PAWS), and practical hands-on assessment.

Pre-requisites
  • Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or have been registered with a competent person scheme, in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing work, for a period of not less than two years
Or
  • Must have ‘on the job’ heating installation and/or maintenance experience covering a period of not less than two years.
  • They must also hold the following qualifications:
    • current and valid Water Regulations certificate 
    • current and valid Unvented Hot Water certificate

Vaillant ecoTEC exclusive The course will cover pre-installation system checks, product specification, control options and system accessories, commissioning, system setup and maintenance of the ecoTEC exclusive range.60 minutes
Commercial Boiler System SeparationThis module provides an overview of commercial heating and how system separation by using plate heat exchangers can prolong system life and efficiency.60 minutes
High Output Domestic and Commercial BoilersThe course covers an overview of the >50kW boilers, ecoTEC and ecoCRAFT Commercial boilers, including key features, benefits and product specification. It will also give an overview of the commissioning and set-up for optimal use.90 minutes
ecoFIT Installation and CommissioningThis module provides an overview of the ecoFIT range of boilers: their key features, benefits and specification. It will also give an overview of the commissioning and set-up for optimal use60 minutes
ecoTEC and ecoFIT Install, Set-up and ServiceThis course covers the ecoTEC Plus and Pro as well as the ecoFIT domestic gas wall hung boilers. The course will major on the installation, commissioning, and maintenance for these ranges of products, including the use of diagnostics for commissioning and maintenance.
This course follows on from our on-demand E-Learning training packages available in the Vaillant Academy. Attendees will gain more “must-have” knowledge on updated regulations as well as tips on how to be more affective and confident when installing and commissioning one of these appliances.

ecoTEC and ecoFIT Diagnostics and Fault Finding
The ecoTEC & ecoFIT diagnostic and fault-finding training course will cover the system set-up and water quality checks in the first instance, plus the use of the diagnostics and status codes to check for system issues before any removal of components.
The method of operation will be covered in both heating and domestic hot water. Persistent faults using scenarios will help the identification areas of special checks. Also included is the safe isolation and multimeter use, during dead and live testing, strip-out and re-build of internal components and re-commissioning after repair.

ecoTEC exclusive Install, Set-up and ServiceThe course will cover pre-installation system checks, product specification, control options and system accessories for the ecoTEC exclusive range. It will also give an overview of the commissioning, set-up and maintenance for optimal use of this boiler.Full day in-centre
Commercial ecoTEC Insp & MaintenanceThis practical training course is a follow on from the installation and commissioning course. It is aimed at qualified commercial gas engineers who have attended at least one other Vaillant Commercial training course.
The course will go through correct maintenance procedures and techniques on the Vaillant ecoTEC gas appliances including 48kW, 64kW, as well as the 80kW, 100kW and 120kW boilers including basic diagnostics used for fault diagnosis.

Part 2 - Controls OverviewThis course provides information about the Vaillant controls product range, and is ideally suited to installers and engineers either new to Vaillant or its controls, and engineers already installing Vaillant products who wish to learn more about the range of controls available.
Suitable for both domestic and commercial boilers and also renewables
This course is also a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to progress further with our controls courses with an aim to visit one of our Centres of Excellence for a practical course
No installation, wiring, or setup specifics covered – product range familiarity only (range, model names/numbers, F&B’s, system compatibility etc)

Part 3 - WiringThis course provides information about the installation and wiring of our controls (setup covered in another course)

Part 4 - Setup & UseThis course provides information and knowledge for the setup of our controls and what settings and parameters are available on them

Part 5 - Installation and SetupThis course brings together all of our on-line training into one practical training day in one of our Centres of Excellence. You will be able to practice everything you have learnt during the on-line sessions.
The course will cover how to specify the correct type of control, the installation including physical wiring, powering up and commissioning of the system to specific requirements.

It is highly recommended that installers attend the online controls courses prior to this incentre course for essential foundation information and knowledge.

Vaillant Heat Pump Overview This course covers Vaillant's extensive range of heat pumps systems and products: their key features, benefits and specification. Attendees will gain more "must have" knowledge before training on specific product types.90 minutes
aroTHERM plus Part 1: Introduction This module will cover an introduction to Vaillant’s new aroTHERM plus air source heat pump: their key features, benefits, specifications and includes system design requirements.60 minutes
aroTHERM plus Part 2: Installation and Commissioning This module follows on directly from Part 1 and provides detailed instructions when installing and commissioning the aroTHERM plus air source heat pump.90 minutes
aroTHERM Plus Part 3: Soundsafe Zone aroTHERM Plus Soundsafe is mandatory for all installation or maintenance engineers who are installing the aroTHERM Plus heat pump with the accessory "Coded resistor" or carrying out routine Maintenance on the outdoor unit. This Safety Training is essential as both fitting of the coded resistor for the cooling function and routine maintenance require access to the Soundsafe area of the outdoor unit. This On-line session will give installers and maintenance engineers the required additional Safety information for them to be considered as "Level 2" Competent to undertake gaining access to the Soundsafe area of the aroTHERM Plus heat pump.

This on-line course will be followed up by an assessment when you attend face to face training in one of our Centres of Excellence on either the aroTHERM Plus Installation and Commissioning or aroTHERM Plus Maintenance courses.

Please print out and complete the questions in the Workbook provided at the end of the on-line training course as this will be required when attending the face to face session.

aroTHERM Plus Part 4: Cooling This course is designed as an add on session to cover the cooling details of the aroTHERM Plus air source heat pump when being set-up for cooling as well as heating. The course will cover the main features and benefits of the cooling capabilities of the aroTHERM Plus as well as the limitations of the unit, we will go through the installation of the cooling coded resistor, and setting the system to run with cooling in manual or automatic mode.90 minutes
aroTHERM Plus Install, Commissioning, Set UpThis course will cover the installation and commissioning using the schematic drawing.
  • Identification of main components and accessories.
  • The order of the installation process including wiring to the outdoor and indoor unit and various accessories (mixing units, smart wiring centre, system controls.)
  • The fill and flush process including air separator in glycol circuit.
  • The first time powering up, including commissioning using the switch on sequence and set up of wizards.

Our Trainer recommends you complete Vaillant aroTHERM Plus Part 1 Introduction and Vaillant aroTHERM Plus Part 2 Installation and Commissioning lessons, before attending the aroTHERM Plus Install Commission Set-Up Course Terminology and different components are covered in the on-demand lessons in details.

aroTHERM plus Maintenance This course will cover the process of safely maintaining the aroTHERM Plus system components, including the outdoor units, indoor units, additional requirements for DHW components, system and diagnostic checks that need to be carried out at specific intervals.

Upon arrival, you will have a short pre-assessment where you will demonstrate the Soundsafe safety aspect of working safely with R290 filled equipment, therefore, you are required to complete Vaillant's aroTHERM Plus Soundsafe Zone lesson, before attending this Maintenance course.

After you have completed the aroTHERM Plus Soundsafe Zone lesson, you will be able to download the workbook, please bring this workbook with you to this course.

aroTHERM Plus Basic Fault FindingThis course follows on from our in centre aroTHERM Plus Heat Pump Courses. The course will cover method of operation including the running criteria of the heat pump, demonstrated which observing the system setup and diagnostic checks. This will include component testing and checking using the heat pump AI (appliance interface) and the SensoCOMFORT control to check system components for correct operation.Full day in-centre
