Vaillant welcomes Heat Pump Investment Accelerator Competition as part of British Energy Security Strategy

Yesterday the government announced the British Energy Security Strategy, setting out bold plans to accelerate long-term energy independence for the UK. The strategy lays out plans to boost wind, nuclear, solar and hydrogen whilst supporting the production of heat pumps with an Investment Accelerator Competition.

Vaillant welcomes the Heat Pump Investment Accelerator Competition, as one of the only heating appliance manufacturers to produce both high efficiency gas boilers and heat pumps in the UK, we are drawing on our vast experience in developing innovative, industry leading heating technologies and will be manufacturing heat pumps at our Belper factory in Derbyshire later this year.

Mark Wilkins, Training and Technologies Director comments “We are delighted with the announcement of the investment program as part of the British Energy Security Strategy. With consumer appetite for heat pumps continuing to grow, it’s great to see financial support to aid manufacturers looking to meet this demand and support the transition to low carbon technologies. We have already started development on our first heat pump production line at our Belper manufacturing facility which is due for completion later this year. This program will be vital in order to achieve the government’s target of installing 600,000 heat pumps a year by 2028 and further support Vaillant’s UK manufacturing ambitions”

The Heat Pump Investment Accelerator Competition is expected to launch in 2022 worth up to £30m to make British heat pumps.
