There are a few variations of combi boilers but they all basically work in the same way. They take water directly from the mains and heat it, producing a continuous supply of water to home or business; the only draw-back to this is that the water pressure may not be as high as with other types as the water that comes out is at mains pressure. But, if your property is in an area where water pressure is high, you could benefit from a ‘power’ shower without the need of an extra pump being fitted.
As combi boilers take water directly from the mains there is also no need to have a storage tank fitted – usually installed in the loft or in an airing cupboard – so this frees up valuable space in the property. This lack of a storage tank also makes combi boilers more efficient than their counterparts as heat can be lost from a tank and more energy then used to re-heat it.
If the property where you are looking to install a new boiler has more than one bathroom, combi boilers may not give the best delivery of hot water – it may be more advantageous to fit an open vent or system Vaillant boiler, both of which are able to supply hot water quickly to several outlets at the same time.
