Leon Stones of First Call Gas Services Ltd, together with his business partner David Turner, are both former Vaillant Service Team members and only use Vaillant boilers, installing over 200 per year. Stones says, “The Fight Academy, as it’s known locally, had a single boiler struggling to cope with the heating and substantial hot water requirements of the boxing centre. Listening to the client, we knew right away the best combination of Vaillant boilers to specify. The installation was very straightforward and we are pleased the client has been so satisfied.”
The Fight Academy is the pride and joy of well-known boxing promoter Dennis Hobson. It is the home of British former International Boxing Federation light-heavyweight champion Clinton Woods and 15 other professional boxers. In addition to the boxers at his Academy, Hobson has also promoted fights for Ricky Hatton.
Richard Poxon, the Fight Academy’s Trainer said, “We’re a large, three-storey, busy gym. We serve the needs of some 15 professionals and in addition we work actively in the local community, hosting between 50-60 young people here training every night. The two Vaillant boilers were installed in the gymnasium shower block to improve the level of hot water produced at peak times.
“In terms of the heating, we only have it on about an hour a day in the winter because the gym warms up quite quickly when people are exercising anyway. It did mean, however, that when Clinton Woods was preparing for his Florida fight, we were able to turn up the heating sufficiently to replicate the temperatures he would face when he was there. The difference the two new boilers have made is like comparing darkness with light. The amount of hot water we have from our showers now is just amazing.”
