First time buyers embrace Vaillant solar technology

  • Listen to the article

10.08.2007: Vaillant’s auroTHERM VFK 900 solar flat plate domestic hot water system has been installed in a Bristol home. The discreet installation features two panels on the front south-facing roof of the property. The owners, who were first time buyers, wanted an environmental solution for their heating needs which would lower running costs and be aesthetically pleasing.

Solar Thermal Limited specified the complete solar system, which additionally comprised a Vaillant ecoTEC 618 condensing boiler, 250 litre auroSTOR DHW cylinder, and Vaillant controls, including an auroMATIC 560, the ‘brain’ of the solar system, which monitors cylinder and collector temperatures by providing differential solar control.

Oliver Duckworth, Solar Thermal Ltd commented: “Vaillant provided the perfect solar system solution for this domestic property which perfectly matched the requirements of the customer. The system provides year round energy and cost savings for the family and ease of installation for the installer.

“We are particularly pleased to see that even first time buyers have caught the environmental bug. It’s still pretty unusual for people on the first rung of the property ladder to consider renewables but it’s defiantly a great step in the right direction,” he concluded.

The auroTHERM VFK 900 flat plate collector, with ultrasonically-welded copper absorbers and 60mm insulation on the rear and sides for enhanced efficiency, has a solar glass transmission of 91%. With an attractive, polished aluminium, frame, it is a competitively priced option for households in circumstances when weight and size of the collector is of less importance. However, with extra tough (4mm) glass for increased robustness and an overall size of 1160 x 1930 x 110 mm (absorber surface area of 2.02m2), the collectors are remarkably low in weight for their type, at just 43kg. The flat plate collectors also carry a 10-year warranty.
