Age Concern Centre Covent Garden

  • Listen to the article

25.09.2007: Age Concern Covent Garden was in urgent need of a new heating and hot water system following the sudden demise of their existing boilers, as Westminster City Council was forced to close them to the public. Specifiers Accord Facilities Management selected two Vaillant thermoCOMPACT 637 ecoTEC plus boilers, the only type available that met the output requirements, the specifications and the budget, and Age Concern Covent Garden reopened again quickly with a minimum disruption to services.

Age Concern Covent Garden provides a day centre for elderly people where they can come and have a hot lunch, relax and socialise with friends, take courses or play bingo. In the winter months it is one of the warmest places elderly people in the Covent Garden area can visit without being expected to spend money. The heating and hot water the new Vaillant thermoCOMPACT boilers provide has enabled the centre to continue to provide a vital service to the local community.

Robin Stokes, Senior Gas Engineer, Accord FM said, “The old boilers were in a poor state. If we hadn’t been able to specify the Vaillant thermoCOMPACT to replace them, Westminster City Council would have been forced to close the centre down. We installed one with an output of 37kW to handle heating and the other’s output was 28kW to provide hot water and act as a back-up when heating demands were high.”

The Vaillant thermoCOMPACT is a system boiler with modulating outputs and boasts a host of built in features including an expansion vessel, automatic bypass, air vent, circulation pump and 2-stage frost thermostat. It also has all the major system components built in, making installation quick and neat. This saved even more time in a time-critical installation and helped to keep the costs down because there was no need to purchase many additional components. A thermoCOMPACT boiler was selected here because of the installation challenges of the site.
